Police Sequestered Must in Morellino di Scansano DOCG from One Winery That Couldn’t Produce Documents To Trace Provenance of Grapes

“We applaud the actions undertaken by the various authorities: the Ispettorato Repressione Frodi (ICQRF) of the Ministero delle Politiche Agricole (Mipaaf), the Carabinieri Grosseto, NAS (Nucleo Carabinieri Anti Sofisticazioni), NIL (Nucleo Carabinieri Ispettorato del Lavoro) Livorno and the officials at the Stazione Carabinieri di Orbetello to protect the good name of the Consortium and its producers and the work that they do,” the President Giuseppe Mantellassi said.

“The actions of the authorities are in line with our mission which is to promote and protect consumers by garanteeing the exact provenance of wines with the Morellino di Scansano DOCG label. We have always worked within the context of our legal codes and the rigorous application of the Ministeral laws of November 14, 2006,” he added.

The must that was sequestered was equivalent to 420.000 euros. The sequester came about thanks to a vigor control of documents regarding the traceability of grapes. The Consortium is awaiting further developments before deciding its next course of action towards the winery in question.
